How to prepare for an upcomming movie

May not seem that important, but as a movie lover you have to be prepared and in the right state of mind when entering the cinema. There’s two main ways to go about this, so this will guide you through them both, but I recommend that if you go with a friend you are on the same page and therefore do the same thing.

This first one is all about previews. If there is a book you read it, if there are teaser trailers you are going to watch them all. No videos go unclicked. If possible you also buy as much merchandise as you can carry and cosplay your favourite character when going to the cinema. In addition to that you should also go to the premiere of the movie (if you are a hardcore fan) or within the first two weeks (if spoilers is something you want to avoid, but are not that committed). One month absolute maximum, and beyond that and you can’t blame anyone for giving up any spoilers. If you haven’t seen a movie that came out a while ago you might want to stay off any social media involving it. But this way is really about learning all there is to know about the movie before seeing it. Bottom line, you know exactly what you are paying for and you have also mentally prepared yourself for what is coming. One side effect of using this particular way of movie watching is that you might start seeing things that are inaccurate or different from the printed version or you might get disappointed, seeing as the trailers only view the best parts. And you will now have a cosplay costume lying around that was really expensive and that you will never use again… On the bright side you will get to freak out for when entering the cinema and the first part of the movie 'cause you've been waiting really long and can't believe you're actually seeing it now (!!).

Method number two is, as you’ve probably guessed, about remaining ignorant. It’s about choosing to trust your instinct when you’ve only seen a bit of the trailer. This one is a bit more risky, so if you’re not good at recognising a good plot from only knowing little about it I recommend you take the advice of the first method. Better safe than sorry. But this way can also be very interesting, as even trailers can contain spoilers, they can be tiny ones but often more than I personally wish to know. One example is Lord of the Rings: The two towers, which totally spoiled that Gandalf was indeed still alive just at the end of it. (If you haven’t seen the movie it’s been like 14 years it’s not a spoiler anymore). If you don’t have a sense for telling a good movie but is still interested in doing this than you could ask someone who goes by the first mentioned method, just make sure that that person doesn’t give anything up. This technique is very good if you want to be sure not to run into any spoilers before watching it, so it’s perfect for that kind of people, but really it’s just building up anticipation, in difference from seeing all the best moments of the film on YouTube first.
You can obviously mix the different ways up, learning a bit about what you’re going to see while still saving some for when you’re actually going to see it, which is to no one’s surprise more common but it’s not close to as much fun. But really you have just got to figure out what works for you and soon you’ll be watching movies like a pro.

Looking down upon the chilly Sergels torg this february morning the first thing I notice is how empty the streets are. Perhaps everyone is busy working or just staying inside to avoid the cold swedish weather. Though I'm seeing it from the inside of a warm building I only need to look at the thick layers of clothing worn by all of the people to realise it is still winter. I notice one man wearing a bright orange jacket running towards the subway, clutching a cup of coffee in his hands, spilling some on the ground and on his jacket but doesnt seem to care. All I can think is that he must be really late for something. Further away a violinist is playing a melody I cannot hear from where I'm standing, but judging from the many coins he has collected I'd guess he's pretty good.

Compare And Contrast - Spiderman vs The Amazing Spiderman

It is no secret that The Amazing Spider man movie has been a big success and a block buster. It is, however, somewhat unavoidable that the movie will be compared by many to the original Spider Man movie since they revolve around many of the similar characters and plots. In this essay I will be comparing the two movies and highlighting the key similarities and differences between the two. First off, both movies have the same basic idea, but the major differences are the effects, the technology and some of the characters. You can really feel the difference between the quality of the original Spider Man and the Amazing Spider Man. The Amazing Spider Man has better and smoother effects than the original one. However, a lot of people tend to like the original movies more because they think it cannot be replaced and that the originals always do better than the remade ones. Personally, I like both, but I can see why many lean towards the original one better. Even though the ratings are better at the original movies, I was really surprised with how well it did.

THE CHARACTER: I will now compare the movies in more detail and talk more in-depth about the quality. Firstly, the aspect that most people constantly talk about is the character of Spiderman. In the original movie, Spiderman is played by Tobey Maguire, and in the latest, he is played by Andrew Garfield. I think that both characters are well suited for the job. And the characters around them are fitting as well. Many, including myself, share the opinion that Tobey Maguire is a better Peter Parker than Andrew Garfield, but at the same time Andrew Garfield is a better Spider Man. Peter Parker is meant to be a somewhat geeky looking boy who does not quite fit into the mainstream crowd. This is an important feature which Maguire nails. Garfield on the other hand manages highlight the adventurous side of The character more efficiently. Overall though, I would say that Tobey Maguire wins as the character of Spiderman, for nailing the character of Peter Parker and doing a decent job with Spiderman as well.

THE EFFECTS & ACTION: It’s true that most of the remakes are worse that the original but this one actually surprised me. It maybe wasn’t better but it was far from being a bad movie. For example, the effects of The Amazing Spider Man are considerably better. That’s, obviously, because The Amazing Spider Man was released 12 years after the original one was released. So that’s no surprise. As well, although the action is good in the original Spider Man, the action is a bit better here thanks to the great effects and the high budget. In general, I would say that The Amazing Spider Man has better action and effects than the original.

STORY & PLOT: As for the story and plot, the two movies are very similar, and that is apparently the general audience’s most common complaint about the new movie, being that the plot is not original enough in The Amazing Spider Man, and that it copied the plot of the original one. The Amazing Spiderman still offers a different villain, and the movie does become more original in the second half. The original Spiderman wins partly for obvious reasons.

CONCLUSION: Ultimately, both movies are well made and very entertaining. The Amazing Spider Man offers better effects and action, whereas the original Spider Man offers a better main character and a better story. The winner for me is… the original Spiderman.

Review - Just go with it

On a trip to Hawaii, a made up family are living the dream but telling a lie.

In February 2011 “Just Go With It” was released in U.S. cinemas. The romantic comedy got a rate of 6.4 out of 10 on imdb. Here five years, later is my take on the movie.

This story begins with a wedding. A wedding that never takes place, because just before the wedding is about to take place, Danny overhears his soon to be wife's very mean conversation with her bridesmaids. He hears what she really thinks about him and leaves. By accident he picks up a girl way out of his league, at a bar and discovers: “The magique of the wedding ring”.

A few years later he meets “Palmer”, a young, blonde girl at a party. Desperate to avoid the truth, Danny makes up a fake wife and makes his assistant “Katherine” play her. One lie leads to another and and soon, Danny finds himself in Hawaii, with a made up family.

Lead cast: “Danny” - Adam Sandler, “Katherine” - Jennifer Aniston

The movie is directed by Dennis Dugan and written by Allan Loeb and Timothy Dowling. Jennifer and Adam were both nominated for the mtv movie awards for best female performance and best comedic performance. Jennifer was also nominated for the performance of the year, national movie award. The movie budget was 80 million dollars which is almost 673 million swedish kronor.

My favourite tagline from the movie is “Sometimes you need a girl, to get the girl”.

I personally, love this movie! It absolutely cracks me up! I´m a sucker for romance and comedy, but I could watch this movie on repeat. Both Jennifer and Adam seems to be born to play their characters! The story has the perfect amount of drama for you to be moved but not freaked out.

The fact that you get to see a little bit of the hawaiian environment during the second part of the movie, I think is fantastic. It keeps me interested during the whole thing. I also love the fact that they included kids in the movie because the relationship between the grown ups and the kids develop in such a beautiful way, throughout the movie.

I give this movie a score of nine out of ten!

The best part in the movie is definitely the end though, but i'm going to let you find out what happens, for yourself.

3 movies you must see before you die

1.   The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Short summary of the story: In 1946, a banker named Andy Dufresne is convicted of a murder, even though he proclaims his innocence. He's sentenced to a life term at the Shawshank State Prison in Maine, where another man, Ellis Redding, picks him as the new recruit most likely to crack under the pressure. The ugly realities of living in prison are quickly introduced to Andy. A corrupt warden and sadistic guards are willing to use rape or beatings to insure their dominance. But Andy does not crack, he has the hope of the truly innocent, which allows him to dominate behind the bars in the prison. He uses his banking skills to win favor with the warden and the guards, helping with Norton's illegal business plans and keeping an eye on the investments of most of the prison staff. He is even able to bring some respect back to many of the inmates,

The Shawshank Redemption was for some people what concluded art in the Hollywood movie scene. I’m of the opinion that this movie deserves the #1 spot on this list because of the build up strategies combined with a great dramatic story and some of the best actors. That they even managed to make such an amazing movie from the perspective of people inside a prison is crazy. That’s what makes it to the top of the my Top 3-list.

Genre: Drama
Director: Frank Darabont
Writer: Frank Darabont
Runtime: 2 hr. 22 min.

Oscar nominations: 7
Oscar wins: 0
Other nominations: 20
Other wins: 14

2.   The Godfather (1972)
Short summary of the story: The Godfather is the head of the Corleone mafia family in New York and is at the event of his daughter's wedding. Micheal, The Godfather’s youngest son and a WW II Marine is also present at the wedding. Micheal seems to be uninterested in being a part of the family business. The Godfather is a powerful man, and is kind to all those who give him respect but is harsh against those who do not. When a powerful and disloyal rival wants to sell drugs and needs the Don Vito(The family)'s influence for the same, he refuses to do it. What happens next is that a clash between The Godfather’s fading old values and the new ways which may cause Micheal to do the thing he was most unwilling in doing and start a war against all the other mafia families which could tear the Corleone family apart.

Honestly, there’s not one bad thing I can point out after watching this movie except for the video quality, but that doesn’t make the actual movie any worse. Some might argue about how The Godfather deserves the number one place on this list but I personally think that that it should share the first place with The Shawshank Redemption, both movies are incredible in their own ways. To my mind, these 3 things are the parts of movie:
1. The direction - The choices of music, cinematography, look, sound and lighting during the whole movie which created a certain mood of place and especially time.
2. Accessible/Easy-going - There’s nothing that has to be explained in order for the watchers to appreciate to movie. So if you didn’t like it, that’s pretty much it.
3. The acting - One of the deepest casts ever assembled in a movie, Brando (The Godfather) created one of the most iconic characters in history of movies.

Austin Chronicle says: “Just about as great as a movie's ever gonna be... As for the storytelling, The Godfather is an intricately constructed gem that simultaneously kicks ass. 100/100”

Genre: Drama, crime
Director: Francis Ford Coppola
Writers: Francis Ford Coppola, Mario Puzo
Runtime: 2 hr. 55 min.

Oscar wins: 3
Other nominations: 27
Other wins: 23

3.   The Godfather: Part II (1974)

Short summary of the story: The Godfather Part II presents two parallel storylines. One involves Mafia chief Michael Corleone in 1959 after the events of the first movie, the other is a series of flashbacks following his father, Vito Corleone (The Godfather) from 1917 to 1925.

Not too soon after the release of The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola directed the second part of The Godfather. The result was once again extremely successful and the movie ended up as one of the top selling that year. It seemed like Francis and Mario never would disappoint the fans of the movie series. Why this movie deserves the third place is basically because of the same reasons and the first Godfather movie; The acting, the dialogue, the story, the direction and the overall genuine mind behind this masterpiece.

The third part of The Godfather wasn’t just as popular as the other two though, maybe it was because they waited for too long to release it and people had forgotten the old ones, 16 years went before the release of the third one after all.

Genre: Drama, crime

ANT-MAN MOVIE REVIEW

Ant-Man is directed by Peyton Reed and is acted by Paul Rudd, Edgar Wright, Adam McKay, Joe Cornish and more.

If you’re a fan of Marvel’s movies then Ant-Man is a great movie for you. Before I saw the movie I actually wasn’t that excited about it. I was not even planning on watching it watch it but I’m glad I did. At the time I was upset that I could not watch the movie that I had originally planned on watching, but I was surprised of how good of a movie Ant-Man was. I would say it would go to the top 15 Marvel movies of all time. It has the whole package, comedy, action and drama. The way everything combines and gets together is awesome. Ultimately, the movie is worth the watch and will make your day.

The characters are great, especially the main character, Paul Rudd. He has a great sense of humor, he was handsome, good at acting and he was just the right guy for the role. Not only that, there was a lot of cool special effects that went in wonderfully with the movie and the scenes. The cons of this movie is that not everything about it quite fits into the criteria of a typical superhero/Marvel movie. I mean it doesn’t feel like it has been taken as seriously as all the other marvel movies, such Avengers Age Of Ultron or The Fantastic Four. The villain was quite a weak character and more effort could have been put into developing the character and its motivations. Also, there were some plot holes which I won’t spoil. At times I enjoyed the balance between the seriousness and humour in this movie as I found many of the jokes to be quite funny, but then again at some points the jokes could get too much and I thought that it affected the movie and its origin.

Sometimes you forget what kind of movie it is with all this humor. So, I can understand why some people might be bothered since I would imagine many people entering the theater expecting a typical superhero movie, but come to find one that is more of a comedy compared to the usual ones., but overall I personally really liked it. We needed that kind of humorous superhero movie. And especially when I was supposed to watch a comedy movie but didn’t. Instead I watched a Marvel movie that was funny and that I generally enjoyed. And the most exciting part of all this is that a sequel to the movie is coming . I am more than excited for it and I can’t wait because I’m definitely going to watch part 2. It’s going to be released on July 6 2018 (according to google).  At the absolute end of the movie you will understand why I am so excited for part 2.

Overall: Despite the villain being weak and the existence of some plot holes, Ant-Man is a very entertaining and funny action movie and is a perfect watch for the entire family. If you’re ready to watch a marvel film that doesn’t take itself too seriously you will most definitely love it.
